James, as well as being a photographer, is also a well known artist. He has painted many commissioned portraits including Prince Andrew at Buckingham Palace and Generals in the Army. He has also been an official war artist in Bosnia.

James paints with oil on canvas and also undertakes pencil drawings.

How to Commission a Portrait

Initial Meeting At Your Home:
This take approximately 2 - 4 hours and is to discuss what you are looking for in a portrait such as the size and composition, formal or informal, pose and clothing. Photographs are then taken which are downloaded onto a laptop and the final composition is then built up from there.

A 50% payment is taken at this stage and the painting can now begin.

2nd Meeting:
Occasionally a second photographic session is needed of approximately 2 hours. This is to refine and improve the composition.

Time Scale:
From the time of the initial meeting to the delivery of the painting allow 3-6 months depending on complexity and size of the painting.
